Dr. George Jackowski, Ph.D.
Dr. George Jackowski, Ph.D., has been Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer of Pivotal Therapeutics Inc. since June 2011. Dr. Jackowski serves as the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Phoenix BioPharm Inc., and has been its Chief Scientific Officer since April 2004. He is the Founder of Phoenix Biopharm Inc. and He serves as Chief Executive Officer of NanoHemoglobin Technologies. He serves as the Chief Scientific Advisor of Nanogen Inc. He founded Synx Pharma Inc. in 1997 and served as its Chief Scientific Officer and Chairman since April 2004 and served as its Chief Executive Officer from 2002 to 2004.
A preeminent scientist, Dr. Jackowski is also recognized for his keen business sense and expertise in the BioTech industry. He has been intimately involved in the enforcement of patent claims, patent litigation and patent interference proceedings. He holds academic positions at the University of Toronto, Departments of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology and Surgery and at the Toronto Hospital Centre for Cardiovascular Research.
He is a biotech entrepreneur. He is trained as a clinical biochemist with over 25 years experience in the cardiovascular and CNS industry. Dr. Jackowski co-founded five biotechnology companies, four of which are public and was also instrumental in the creation of twelve additional biotechnology companies. He has founded 9 biotech companies and was instrumental in the creation of 12 other firms.
He served as the Chairman and Member of Scientific Advisory Board of Toxin Alert Inc., until January 2005. He serves as a Director of Antibe Therapeutics Inc. He served as a Director of Synx Pharma Inc., and also as its Member of Scientific Advisory Board. He served as a Director of MedX Health Corp., from July 12, 2005 to February 26, 2010. He served as a Director of Toxin Alert Inc., from 1999 to January 2005. He is the Chairman of Bio Canada Connect and is also a Member of the Ontario BIOCouncil. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Stroke Network.
He is an author/co-author of 46 scientific publications and 61 abstracts, as well as the inventor of over 80 patents filed in the United States and under International Patent Treaties. He is the inventor of the Spectral Cardiac Panel, a rapid format cardiac diagnostic test. His outstanding scientific record includes approximately 49 published medical papers in cardiovascular research and 136 patents for cardiovascular products issued and filed in the USA and Worldwide.
He is the recipient of the 1996 MEDEC Award for Medical Achievement for his invention of the Cardiac STATus™ CK-MB/Myoglobin Card Test. Dr. Jackowski earned a Ph.D. in Clinical Biochemistry from the University of Toronto and received training at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of San Francisco, California.
