Walter J. Perchal
Since completing undergraduate and graduate studies Walter Perchal has taught a broad range of courses at, York University, in Toronto, Canada. There he has also been a member of the founding faculty group of one of only two graduate programs in Canada in the area of: Disaster and Emergency Management where he currently serves as graduate and undergraduate faculty. Additionally, he was the founding faculty member and currently serves a Program Director of the Centre of Excellence in Security, Resilience, and Intelligence Management at the Schulich Executive Education Centre.
His areas of academic specialization include: Global Change; International Security; Public Safety; Contingency, Continuity, and, Transformation Management; and, Terrorism. He has been a Visiting Guest Professor in a number of countries and is Adjunct Faculty at the Canadian Forces College. In recognition of his teaching he is past recipient of: The Dean’s Award for Outstanding Teaching, The Seymour Schulich Award for Teaching Excellence, and, the York University – University Wide Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence.
Concurrently, he is a Founding Principal of SRI Professionals and is the Managing Director of IC Inc., a consultancy providing solutions to governments and corporations on transformation and security issues.
During his career he has also served as a former Senior Officer in the Canadian Forces. During that period he held various appointments in Canada and abroad. Among these he was the past Commanding Officer of: The Royal Regiment of Canada and later was appointed Special Advisor to the Chief of Land Staff – the Canadian Army Commander. In the course of his duties, he also served as Senior Military Advisor to Allied Army and Special Forces Commanders where he had responsibilities related to both domestic security and counter terrorism issues.
